OUGD603: Fossil Brief - Trend/Colour Resarch

To best market the fossil collection as a popular 'trendy' brand I investigated what is hot in menswear right now, particularly for SS/18 and AW/19. The focus will be primarily around casual fashion, as a way to incorporate the outdoorsy nature of palaeontology into the practice.

Some may not be appropriate for the fossil project, although it is good to know the wider contextual trends occurring in menswear at the moment to widen our possibilities of communicating an interesting narrative.

- Tie waist jackets
- Mid-wash denim
- Layering
- Colour pop and clean tailoring
- Vertical stripes
- Brit pop sunglasses

Looking into colours

For simplicity of printing and design impact, we have decided to just do a 1 colour print on either a black or white t-shirt. To give the right impact across the whole audience, the colour ways need to be both relating to the outdoors, but also topically on trend and contemporary within fashion design.

Looking into the trends allowed me to colour pick a few swatches based on the moodboard designs, as well as saturating/desaturating hues to create vibrant effects related to the SS/18 trends. I compiled a few swatches of colour ways in which we could print on the t-shirt. As we are planning to keep them 1 colour screen prints, I wanted to see how each colour would look against white and black, representing the colour of the tshirt.

Black is always best to show a contemporary but timeless sophistication
