OUGD503: Marks & Spencer Product Photography

As the brief will have a photographic component, it is essential that those images look and say what Greenalls needs them to say, acting as a visual signifier for the audience. M&S is a hugely iconic British Brand, originating in Leeds, and has developed a reputation for seductive food shots and advertising. M&S build suspense and anticipation through uses of slo-mo (TV Ads), low angle shots empowering the subject, intense clarity and compositional factors all aid the social construct as we see M&S.

 M&S integrate typography in simplistic and traditionalistic ways, not being restrictive to one target demographic- using regal iconography as benchmark of high standard. This is hugely inspiring for Greenalls as the images need to have the same anticipation and quality, yet possibly less dark and eerie than M&S in places.

Considerations:

- Replacing the black cove with Greenalls green?
- Vibrancy through products and backgrounds
- Natural light vs studio
- Collaborate with photographer for technical side of images?
- Art direction + props (?)
