After selecting the most effective images, this is the first initial mock up and composition. I opted for a simplistic cover/back cover in the style similar to that of a school notebook/sketchbook. This is intended to be printed on a ticker stock, perhaps a textured paper giving a tangible representation. I intended to pursue the design principles learnt this year, combining both modernist and postmodernist approaches to typesetting, colour combination and proportional negative space.

After taking this work to an informal critique, it was raised that the style/layout/overall ascetic was very 'samey' and typical of the genre. My intentions for the look book are to be distributed for free and handled like Nest. Available in the canteen and to grab and put in their bag, not to be printed on gloss paper and treated like Vogue. With this in mind it is essential to develop a stronger concept behind the ascetic and composition, therefore giving an engaging and consistent style.

With this in mind, I will try and experiment with my own style, tailoring the publication to my current interests. By experimenting with colour or a distortion, this may offset the genre conventions and appeal on a more visually stimulating way. I feel getting away from the computer could also be advantageous when considering composition, whilst other printed publications such as NEST proving huge inspiration.
