OUGD504: Design for Screen- Re-Writing the Brief

After a drastic U-Turn in my personal life, I was unable to dedicate the time to researching this idea fully, in enough detail I would like. Due to having to suddenly seek accommodation myself, and finding the user experience of the whole thing overwhelmingly stressful- I decided to re-write the Brief and start a fresh. This will naturally hinder my time management, yet I thought the practicality of 'killing two birds with one stone', as it were, was a real waste. There is definitely a gap between customer/user expectations and the reality of the experience.

Overall, the satisfaction you want to feel when looking at properties was not there. There was no excitement, no buzz. Most of the time it is unclear wether the agent has been contacted or not, proving communicating is a huge factor to consider.

There are two ways I could incorporate this problem into this brief module. Create a re-design of SpareRoom.com/ FlatFinder.com, fulfilling a higher mission.

Or//

Create a whole new fictional company/new experience to aid the process.

The Problem is: When in need of a quick place to live, stress is high and current interfaces are not fully fit for purpose.

The qualitative response to house hunting is excitement, anticipation, a pinch of fear and quite a lot of panic. When something has been accomplished, such as booking a viewing or emailing an agent there is no interaction with the user to suggest progression. As this is both exciting and apprehensive at the same time, it would be interesting to see how the experience could be improved.

I think creating a new system incorporating the aspects of SpareRoom.com/FlatFinder.com, and other interesting providers, an 'all-rounder' could be generated, acting as one stop shop for people in times of crisis like this.
