OUGD603: Zlata Branding - Online Packaging Research/Feedback

In our initial meeting in Nero, Zlata explained how she will be distributing online rather than in physical stores - this means that online packaging is needed to protect her items, but keep them sleek and sophisticated. Zlata was clear on wanting black packaging, sticking to the time.less nature of the concept.

Most mail parcels look unidentifiable and the same. Protective bubble wrap lining and soft squishy texture is cheap to produce and does not say luxury.

ASOS

ASOS' online packaging has become part of visual culture in millennial Britain, with the black and white print has become so distinct due to its saturation in daily life out in the real world. By using a pattern they have extended their brand identity, however it is worth noting that they do not continue this presence anywhere but through their packaging.

Also has cut out handle for easily transportation

UK TO BAN ALL SINGLE USE PLASTICS IN 2020

Look into alternatives other than plastic - boxes would be fine if durable enough.

Alternative protective cases to plastic:
- cardboard boxes
- metal
- fabric bags (cotton, canvas) (not water resistant)
- fabric coating bag on cardboard box (cotton, canvas) (not water resistant)

Also needs to be:
- weather resistant and protective

Also consider
- Packaging tape with logo on
- Packaging with logotype/website
- Dockets/care cards
- Thank you cards and other things inside the parcel
- Filler packaging (tissue paper/ printed linings/ dustbags)

too many logo's is quite unsafe as people know its high value, so left unattended could result in being stolen

Zara box with plastic and handle - could work as tightly sewn string bag instead?

Super cute insides, makes the audience happy when they open it. Especially when they are a first time customer from Zara online.

Feedback:

-Definitely look into durable boxes
-Avoid plastic at all costs
-Research ways to screen print sustainably (Erin suggested eco binder)
-Don't give myself more work in printing the boxes - mock them up the best I can and hopefully the actual boxes will arrive in time (budget depending)
-Include personal touches, such as hand written notes and personalised thank you's reflecting the small personal nature of the brand
-Look into organic materials (recycled boxes, eco-friendly coatings)
-Could spray paint with thick matte black, although toxins are bad for the envrioment
