Broadcast based settings
Can't start any work in After Effects until you create a new composition - just like you couldn't draw in PS prior to creating a document.
Composition>New Composition
PAL setting gives a good generic outcome (AE version of A4), yet this is unspecific. If you wanted to create something specific, eg for an iPhone, simply program in the specific size and it sets is for you as normal. This will now be the perfect size for the iPhone screen without any rendering needed.
Work at frame rate of 25 and set the time. Default is 30 seconds- again this can be altered ad shortened.
Likewise with background colour.
Composition created!
Can't do anything until you bring work/information ito the Project bar- this can include Photoshop/Illustrator documents/ Import from Premier/ Import Music and other videos/ Import images from online etc
Layer>New>Solid>Set Size (can be composition but generally just a small shape)
